A TENS machine is a form of pain relief. The TENS stands for Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. The machines are small, battery-operated devices that have leads attached to sticky pads called electrodes, which you put directly onto your skin. When the machine is switched on, small electrical impusles are delivered to the affected area of your body, which you feel as a tingling sensation. The electrical impluses can reduce the pain signals going to the spinal coard and brain, which may help relieve pain and relax muscles. They may also stimulate the production of endorphins, the bodies natural painkillers.
TENS may ne able to help reduce pain and muscle spasms for arthritis, period pain, knww pain, neck pain, back pain, sports injuries and during labour.
As of now there is a limited amount of good-quality scientific evidence to say whether it is a reliable method of pain relief. Certainly, it seem to be a bit hit and miss as to who benefits, and if it works the benefits vary depending upon the individual.
It is possible that your GP may refer you to a physiotherapist or pain clinic who may lend you a TENS machine.
If you cannot get a TENS machine on referral, or get an assessment, then we would be happy to help. We have up to date knowledge of the current machines available and we have also had practice in their application.
We can offer a trial session where we would discuss your needs and show you how to set up a TENS machine for your condition, and then give you the opportunity to try it out so you understand the different power settings available to you.
If you are still unsure you can hire the machine for a week. We can offer new TENS machines for sale at very competitive prices.
